Although myself and partner 'help out' with a local camera club and have offered friends tuition on an informal basis over the last few years, it was only a fairly recent 'tuition day' that casued me to consider doing similar on a more formal basis.
Rather than the day we attended provide inspiration to emulate, our small group of 6 attendees were so disappointed with the quality of the experience that I determined I should try and offer tuition myself. Whilst it is still early days, so far the feedback has been very positive and most attendees have chosen to return and bring friend / colleagues.
I have recently found that i gain an equal amount of pleasure in assisting other photographers improve upon their own images as I do in producing my own. I am currently developing this concept as a separate business interest for each area of my photography 'expertise'
I have not previously found the time or inclination to enter into national or international 'competitions' and have only fairly recently decided that I ought gain some degree of formal acknowledgment of my photography if I am to publicise my nature and wildlife photography tuition.
As such I am now a member of 'The Societies' which encompasses many photography disciplines - in my case for two key interests. My wildlife photography has been accredited with the designation LSWINWP which means that currently i am 'Licentiate' level for the area 'International Nature and Wildlife.'
I am currently working on a submission panel for 'Associate' level and should be making that submission shortly. This will supposedly mean that i am within the top 10% of photographers in that specific field, although i would argue that it moreso suggests that i might be within the top 10% of those that are both members of The Societies and also interested /anorak enough to attempt to gain this accolade.
Please note that i am NOT a full-time professional photographer. Whilst this may concern you, my own adage or thought on the matter is this - the person that does something only or manly for it's financial reward will likely do as much as required to get paid, whereas someone such as myself that is primarily interested in making images and assisiting you to make them, may well deliver a better proposition.
